it would appear, according to that nice italian vet we visited today with maggie, that i am about to become a dad. i'm not sure how it happened! someone has mentioned puppies. everyone is all shocked and nervous. it wasn't supposed to be thus.

still, i'm happy on my walkies, and the grub has been every so delicious lately, chicken tonight i hasten to add, but i'm bothered by that word: puppies. and dad. yep, something is definately up.

you can see from the look in my eyes, the sincerity with which i feel true and great love for bok-choy and yuba (tofu skin) miso soup. to be honest, i like cabbage miso soup too.

and i LOVE my magic green chopsticks. i wish i could use them myself with my own paws! but meanwhile don't mind relying on the kindness of......well the kindness of marlena. she made the soup too. maybe i'll get her to post soup recipe on my blog??? very simple though: add a spoonful of miso at the end of simmering a simple vegetable soup. don't know what it is that makes me bow-wow-wow!

those of you who wrote in saying that I looked embarassed with my little collection of pink lipstick kisses, well, the answer is twofold: of course i was a little embarassed, who wouldn't be covered with such pink-kissy-ness? excuse me, its a guy thing. would YOU go out like that? i thought not.

but also, you know, i'm pretty good about showing several emotions: i do embarassed quite well.

and i also do sly. sometimes i can look sooooo embarassed. and other times i can look sooooo sly.

perhaps i should be an acting dog, that is, a dog acting, not acting like a dog. that i can do cause thats what i am. but my repertoire is limited; embarssed and sly pretty much covers it. then there is the keen and eager look when i hear the word walkies.

anyhow the lipstick has finally faded away and i've got my dignity back. good news, eh folks?

I miss her....oh i know i might look as happy-go-lucky as always, but in my heart i do miss her. i miss playing bottoms up and drag along the floor with her for one thing. also meals are not nearly as good.

there she is in italy, a country filled with affectionate dogs. is she thinking of me or has she been frolicking with, say, a pack of hounds on a buffalo mozzarella farm?

i wonder who's eating from her doggy bag now....

I love Marlena's new pink lippy, noting that it is Mabelline #172, for future reference, in case she forgets, i can remind her accordingly. i also note that she slicks a layer of a shimmery long-lasting reddish sparkly layer over it. mmmmm. good.

my marlena is so kissable. my only wish is that they made lipstick with the taste of pigs liver or squirrel. i love licking her beautiful lips, but oh if they tasted like, say, crispy pig, i'd be even happier.

I understand now why it feels so fabulous to pee on every tree and bush and sign and wall i pass on walkies. its like broadcasting what i'm up to, that i've been passing by, that i'm king of the road. peeing on the trees is pr, journalist, stories about me, its the equivilant to being on the front page of the New York Times, being on a newsflash on the BBC World Service.

just saw Ben the springer spaniel on walkies past my front window, am remembering how wonderful it felt to give him a little nip....the feel of just a bit of flesh and fur between my tiny teeth.

poor ben, he's such a lovely chap. but hey, i'm a territorial little beast who loves the finer things of life, and the occasional neighbour-nibble is like the occasional cigar: delightful!

They should have snapped a foto of me licking the beaters after the cream was whipped, but the truth was there was no time! no time at all! I was so keen and eager, before you knew it, the beaters were in my range and i was licking for all I'm worth.

The whipped cream--which I now think is the most perfectly delicious food on earth and am going to suggest it as a flavour for dog food--was topping for banoffi pie.

Banoffi pie is an indulgent dream or nightmare depending on how you feel about this sort of thing: a layer of graham cracker crust (or wholemeal digestive biscuits), a layer of bananas and another of caramel. Here is the link to a recipe my beloved dog-mom and cook ran in the San Francisco Chronicle:

but here's a secret: instead of making a caramel from scratch or buying it in a jar-both fine--why not simply simmer the UNOPENED can in water, being sure that it stays submerged and underwater the whole time. Keep topping it up as needed, and keep the heat at a low rolling simmer. Do this for about 3 hours. Then let it cool and spoon it out--oh my! gaudy sugary goodness!

I am not afraid to jump right on to the table if I see something I love: cornish pasty, boiled chicken, or cherry ice cream especially. i don't see why people get upset, i'm the perfect size to be on a table and i don't make a mess, keep my feet out of the mashed potatoes and all.....anyhow there really is nothing that will ever stop me. you'll be pleased to hear, however, that I don't do it often: its a rare treat i allow myself and only when i just can't help myself .

my name is Jake.

i'm a small jack russell with short little legs and a big appetite for the good things in life: chicken, pigs liver, rice pudding, ripe plums, cat food, and carrot soup. Thats only so far, I know there is so much more out there for me to discover, but i'm just a young pup!

Favourite pastimes include: walking walking walking, my little legs going as fast as they can; I love chasing the sunbeams as they stream into the window, barking at the dogs in the neighbourhood (I HATE jackson, am very fond of mutley, want to have my way with molly), and smelling the smelliest things I can find along the way. My dream would be to savage the letter carrier; oh that would make me the happiest dog ever even though she is a very nice lady and doesn't deserve harm. Its just so tempting, i can't explain what propells me to my state of insanity when she arrives each morning. When the letters come sailing through the slot on the door, I shake and rip them apart, til they lie there motionless and are no harm to anyone. So satisfying!

I look forward to sharing my life, discoveries, and observations with you, and i promise, even if i really really want to, I won't bite you....even if I really want to! (grrrrr...) (just kidding!)
